Laura Waldron began her sales career at Princeton University Press, managing the special sales and international programs. She left Princeton to become a field rep, representing 15 university Presses to accounts in the mid-Atlantic. For 25 years, she was the Marketing & Sales Director at the University of Pennsylvania Press before bringing her passion for the publishing business to the University of Chicago Press in 2022.

Gary Hart has been peddling books for more than 30 years, beginning as an assistant in the Sales Department at Viking Penguin in New York. Following a second in-house sales position in Penguin Children’s Books, Hart became a Penguin field sales rep, first in New England and then the San Francisco Bay Area. In San Francisco, Hart was hired as the University of Chicago Press’s first West Coast house rep, responsible for independent and museum bookshops in a territory that for many years also included selling to New York City accounts and Baker & Taylor. Now based in Los Angeles, Hart covers the West Coast and Southwest, including Texas.

Travis Hale began their career in bookselling at BookStop in Austin, TX over 25 years ago, before going on to work at Barnes & Noble locations in both Austin and the Chicagoland area. In 2017, they made the switch from retail bookselling to the publishing side, joining Independent Publishers Group as Trade Sales Representative for Central US States. In that capacity, they worked with hundreds of publishers and sold to accounts within a 17-state territory before being promoted to Trade Sales Manager, where they managed sales efforts of IPG’s commission-based rep groups. They have also freelanced as a back-of-book indexer for university and trade presses. In early 2026, they joined the University of Chicago Press as the Midwest Sales Representative, bringing their passion, experience, and excitement for reading to help bookstores and readers connect with their next great read.
